Iowa residents 16 years and older are required to have a valid Hunting License on their person, and have paid all applicable fees and possess all required stamps while hunting except for: landowners and their juvenile children hunting on their own land, hunters 15 years old or younger hunting with a licensed adult, and persons that qualify for special disability or income-related licenses. Additionally, the Habitat Fee is included, so one can hunt or trap anywhere in the state except for residents that have special licenses for the disabled or landowners and their children hunting on their own land.

This license is required of all residents 16 years old and older to hunt wild geese, brant, wild ducks, snipe, rail, woodcock or coot. This fee must be paid even if a hunting license is not required.

When you buy the E-Stamp, you will receive temporary authorization to hunt migratory birds until you receive the physical stamp in the mail. Once you receive the physical stamp in the mail your E-Stamp is no longer valid and you must carry the physical stamp with you. Physical stamps should be received within 45 days. The physical 2023-2024 Federal Duck Stamp is valid from July 1, 2023 through June 30th, 2024. You also need to purchase an Iowa Hunting License, habitat stamp, and state migratory bird stamp to legally hunt migratory birds in Iowa.
